While most of us use social media websites for entertainment, there’s an increasing number of people (and I’m emphasizing on people, not companies) who make money through these platforms. And not any kind of money, but big money.
To do that, you’d have to know how to approach social media and the people spending time there.
Who are these people who spend time on social media?
If you’d have asked this question 10 years ago, the answer would have been: socially awkward teenagers who have a lot of time to spare. However, the context drastically changes if it’s applied to 2014.
Today, the entire planet is browsing through social media. It doesn’t matter where you are because you have your mobile device with you, which is your portal to the world. You can instantly connect with billions of people.
Now, think about that power and think about the fact that you can buy and sell things online. Instantly. To billions of people.
I don’t want to move away from my point. What I wanted to say is that The Thank You Economy, a book written by Gary Vaynerchuk (which I mentioned in an earlier post) teaches you how to use the social media to leverage on and to enhance the power of your business. The beauty is that today your business can only consist of you (1 person).
Since you have so many people as potential customers and since you have so many free tools to create your products (either physical or digital products), you’re as powerful as very large companies from big industries.
Again, the whole point of the Thank Economy is to connect with people, it’s all about empathy. It’s about showing people that you care about them and their life, and this in turn will positively affect your own life and your business.
I was just talking about the cash to get your attention.
Gary deserves all the social validation because besides writing this bestseller called The Thank You Economy, he also wrote Crush it! and, more recently, Jab Jab Jab, Right Hook. All these titles have been very successful and all of them put Gary Vaynerchuk on top of the biggest contemporary influencers.
Besides, I love this guy because he’s constantly making abuse of bad language in all the interviews and videos you can find featuring him on Youtube. How can you not love it?
I mean, look at him (wait until minute 4:00 for the fun part):
